Crystal Lee has been bringing bold color and big energy to the photography world since 2009. This brand is all about celebration and joy - from bump to baby to birthday. Here, it's all about the magic of childhood. It’s a brand built for those who love bold choices, big personalities, and celebrating life in full color.

While so many people struggle with social media algorithms changing daily and organic reach not being what it used to be, this website has been the real MVP of my business. It’s not just a portfolio of cute babies - it’s a major powerhouse marketing tool that attracts the right clients, sets expectations, and makes the process seamless from start to finish.

The Mission:

Create a bold and eye-catching website that stands out from the (mostly light & airy) competition, delivering high-end, done-for-you vibes that feel as polished and unique as the brand itself.

Product Over Digitals

An an IPS photographer, the experience doesn’t end with the session and an online gallery - it’s about delivering artwork that lasts.

Showcasing high-quality products was a priority for the website, ensuring clients see the value in tangible keepsakes over just digital files that get lost in the abyss.

Fun, whimsical imagery

In a sea of neutral tones and light & airy edits, this studio dares to be different - embracing vibrant, personality-packed imagery that truly embodies childhood magic.

So of course, this website needed to match that same energy! Make it bold, make it joyful, and make it damn near impossible to forget.

A local studio like no other

Photo studios (legal ones, anyway) are a rare gem on the Grand Strand, so this was definitely a unique advantage to lean into.

With most local 'togs working on location (hello, beach town) having a fully equipped studio set Crystal Lee apart as a go-to choice for clients looking for something different.

The real challenge: Balancing multiple specialties in one website without sinking your SEO.

Google loves clarity, and multi-specialty photography sites? They will confuse both search engines and potential clients if they're not structured well. When you're trying to rank for multiple things all on one page, you're competing in multiple arenas without a clear winner.

The key here is strategic structure - giving each niche and keyword its OWN space to shine while keeping your site cohesive, properly optimized and user-friendly.

Umm, what competition?

in her words

"My website turns leads into bookings a million times better than social media ever has.

My favorite clients have even commented that they love how informative my website is, leaving them with little to no questions about my process, style or what to expect.

Not to mention, this website strategy has me ranking on page one (many times in position one) for most of my preferred keywords - bringing in dream clients who are already excited to book."

Q&A with Crystal

How has leaning into your bold brand identity shaped your business?

For years, I tried to keep up with the trends. Remember the damask phase? The red and black phase? The chevron phase? Yeah, me too.

I played with styles that were “in,” but I struggled to really see myself in them. My brand felt like it was trying to fit into a box instead of standing out.

But the truth is, I’ve been a pink girl since before pink was cool - before Barbiecore, before Instagram aesthetics, before it was “on trend.” The second I stopped fighting it and leaned into the vibes that make my heart happy, everything changed. Suddenly, my brand felt authentic, effortless, and me.

In an industry where so many photographers follow the trends, standing out means embracing what makes you different.

What we do isn’t just business - it’s personal. Your personality IS your brand. And when you show up as yourself, you attract the clients who feel like they’ve finally found the perfect fit.

What were your biggest frustrations or limitations with your previous website?

I've only ever tried one other website platform - it was a basic, templated website company with very little customization. My lightbulb moment came when I saw that another local photographer was using the SAME exact website template as me. From that moment on, it was my mission to be DIFFERENT.

And that, my friends, led me to Showit. I found my perfect fit, my online home  - I can officially say that I've been a happy customer and proud Showiteer since 2009.

How has this shaped the way you build websites for other photographers?

It’s made me obsessed with helping photographers build websites that actually feel like them! (insert hyperfocus here) I know what it’s like to hide behind trends, trying to fit into what’s “popular” instead of what’s authentic. And I know how game-changing it is when you finally own your brand - not just in your work, but in the way you present yourself online.

I know what works because I’ve lived it. I’ve seen how a well-designed website eliminates price shoppers, sets expectations before the inquiry, and attracts clients who are already sold on your experience before you even say hello. That’s the difference between a website that just exists and a website that actually works for you. And that’s exactly what I build for other photographers.

Did you take any formal SEO training or learn through experience?

Both! Most of my learning comes from Corey at Fuel Your Photos - he’s one of the few people I trust to give honest, non-shady SEO advice. Just like FB moms' groups are packed with inexperienced budget photographers, photo groups are overflowing with self-proclaimed SEO "pros" - and let’s just say, not all advice is created equal.

It’s been fascinating to watch SEO evolve over the years, and while I’m not ballsy enough to call myself a “pro,” I’m confident in my ability to help photographers build a website strategy that actually works. Between Corey’s group, SEO class and all the deep-dive, do-it-myself SEO work I’ve done over the years, I’ve been able to push my website to page one (and often #1) for most of my target keywords.

Give us one piece of advice to 'photographers struggling to stand out online.

You didn't start this business to blend in and look like everyone else, right?
